The Finding Einstein Project is an educational initiative targeting middle and high school science students. The desired outcomes of the project are to provide a dynamic and shared learning experience for all the participants involved; grant access to underserved school districts, science programs, and students to university level science, research, and technology; and to encourage curiosity, excellence, and leadership among middle and high school and college students. University students have an opportunity to share their knowledge, passion, and cultivate their leadership skills with middle and high school students by designing and executing a proposed project. The first iteration of the project is scheduled for launch in Spring 2006 in Cambridge, MA working with a student from MIT and a group of middle school students who have yet to be identified (application process is open). Proceeds from sales of the Bench Science (physics, chemistry, biology) and Varsity Engineering (electrical, mechanical, and aeronautical) shirts go to funding The Finding Einstein Project. Our hope is that students walk away not only with an interest in pursuing projects, research, or careers in the sciences, but that they have a deeper appreciation for how things work, making life better for others, and appreciating everything around them.
